Ardgowan Distillery join Race to Zero campaign

As Glasgow gears up for the kickoff of COP26, Ardgowan Distillery is proud to announce it has become a member of Race to Zero, publicly pledging to achieving net zero as soon as possible.

Race to Zero is a campaign which is committed to halving global emissions by 2030 and achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050 at the latest.

Ardgowan Distillery Company’s involvement in the UN-backed campaign has been made possible through the Scotch Whisky Association’s partnership status.

Race to Zero members are committed to the same overarching goal: reducing emissions across all scopes swiftly and fairly in line with the Paris Agreement, with transparent action plans and robust near-term targets. Together they form the largest alliance of non-state actors committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 at the very latest.

The commitments made in the pledge are in line with the Scotch Whisky industry’s Sustainability Strategy which commits to reaching net zero as an industry by 2040 – five years ahead of the Scottish Government’s target and 10 years ahead of the UK Government’s target. The Strategy also includes ambitious targets to drive down environmental impact of the industry in key areas including water use, packaging, and responsible land use.

Alongside the pledge, Ardgowan Distillery has demonstrated its ongoing commitment to sustainability by announcing plans to be carbon negative in its operations by 2024, and partnering with engineering specialists Briggs of Burton to create a modular distillery which is able to adapt as sustainable technology evolves.
