The Distillery
Known as our ‘cathedral of whisky’, Ardgowan is the third distillery to carry the proud name. The sloping roof was, therefore, added to represent rebirth and resilience.The striking design is inspired by Scandinavian longhouse architecture, which symbolises hospitality and tradition.With an unwavering commitment to sustainability, our roof is proudly created from 97% recycled aluminium.
Ardgowan Distillery is located on the picturesque Ardgowan Estate near Inverkip, just 30 miles west of Glasgow.Situated close to the sea and the warming Gulf Stream, our distillery benefits from the unique maritime environment.We’re very proud to make history as the first new distillery to operate in the Inverclyde region for over a century.
Our magnificent pot stills were custom-made by McMillan Coppersmiths in Prestonpans. Thousands of hours and millions of hammer blows were required to shape these copper vessels to exact specifications.The wash still has a downward declining lye pipe, which encourages richer, fruitier esters into the condenser, while the spirit still’s lye pipe is upwardly inclining to boost the reflux within the still for lighter, sweeter qualities.Additionally, our hot condensers gently cool our spirit and preserve its character.
The Infinity Cask
Demonstrating our steadfast pursuit of excellence, and partnering with renowned Sherry Bodega Miguel Martín, we invested millions of pounds (GBP) in our very own bespoke cask design: the Infinity Cask.Our casks were laid down in the coastal warehouses of Sanlúcar de Barrameda three years before whisky production started: a testament to our long-term vision and ambition.‘Infinity’ is the first new cask size to be developed in over a century, demonstrating Ardgowan’s aspiration to create the highest quality Single Malt.

Distillery Manager Laura Davies
Laura’s industry experience spans over a decade, mastering her abilities under the guidance of the late whisky icon Dr Jim Swan at The Welsh Whisky Company (Penderyn). Here, Laura honed her technical expertise and sensory instinct, gaining a depth of understanding for production, maturation and new product development.Laura joined Ardgowan Distillery Company in 2024 and, since then, has brought her thoughtful, hands-on approach to developing various Clydebuilt Single Malts, in addition to laying down our Ardgowan distillate for many years of slumber ahead.
