We’re still a year or two from producing our own spirit, but in the meantime, whisky maker Max McFarlane is crafting exceptional whiskies under the Clydebuilt and Inverdarach labels, blending the finest casks to create unique expressions. In July 2024, we launched Clydebuilt Scottish Dry Gin, a blend of local botanicals and global ingredients, celebrating the heritage and reach of the Clyde shipyards.
Clydebuilt Whisky
Some of the greatest ships in the world were built on the River Clyde, and the phrase ‘Clydebuilt’ came to capture this tradition of building with precision, integrity and pride. Clydebuilt Whisky is a limited edition collection of meticulously crafted whiskies inspired by this proud tradition.
When we find a single cask with something truly special maturing inside, we bottle it as part of our Inverdarach brand. From the Gaelic meaning ‘where the waters meet the oak’, Inverdarach represents our promise to find and bottle the best whiskies, which all begin with water and wood.
Handcrafted at Bankfoot Farm, Clydebuilt Scottish Dry Gin blends locally foraged flora with classic gin botanicals from all over the world to create a Scottish Dry Gin that reflects both the local pride in the Clyde shipyards, and the global influence of the ships built there.
Meet Max McFarlane, our Master Whisky Maker. With 50 years in the trade, Max rose to become the lead whisky maker at Edrington, and his signature can be found on the label of some of their finest whiskies, including their multiple award-winning Highland Park 30-year-old. An Inverkip local, Max joined Ardgowan Distillery to help us create our flagship series of lowland single malts. His dream is to help us craft a whisky from start to finish, carefully considering every aspect from grain to cask to glass to make a maritime whisky like no other.
